The first ordinary lead-acid batteries used have low overload capacity and are prone to acid corrosion. After the 1980s, they were gradually replaced by cadmium-nickel batteries, although they have high reliability, small size, small voltage drop, and strong overcharge resistance. The voltage is stable, the discharge rate is high, and the life is longer. However, it also has the disadvantages of low battery voltage, large number of use, relatively large maintenance workload and more cumbersome.  As an independent operating power source, the battery has the advantage of high reliability, so it is widely used in substations and power plants. The valve-regulated battery has the advantages of explosion-proof safety, low number of use, high battery cell voltage, and convenient maintenance.   Due to the structure of the valve-regulated battery, a certain pressure and gas are retained inside the battery to ensure the above-mentioned reaction cycle. At the same time, it also suppresses the precipitation of hydrogen in the negative electrode and controls the water consumption in the battery, so the battery can be operated in a sealed manner.   The following are the issues that should be paid attention to in the use and maintenance of valve-regulated batteries.  --When the battery is maintained and measured, the operator's face must not face the top of the battery, and a certain angle or distance should be maintained.  --During battery operation, check the connecting wires every six months to see if the bolts are loose or corroded. Loose bolts must be tightened in time (the torque between bolts and nuts is about 11N·m), and corroded and contaminated joints should be cleaned in time. During the charging and discharging process of the battery pack, if the connecting strip generates heat or the voltage drop is greater than 10mV, the contact part of the connecting strip should be polished with sandpaper in time.  ——The battery should be placed in a ventilated, dry place, far away from heat sources and places that are not prone to sparks, and the safety distance is 0.5m or more. When the ambient temperature is 25°C to 0°C, the discharge capacity decreases by 1% for every 1°C drop. Therefore, the battery should work in an environment of 15°C to 20°C.  ——To make the battery have a longer service life, please use a good-performance automatic voltage-regulating and current-limiting charging device. When the load changes within the normal range, the charging equipment should achieve a voltage stabilization accuracy of ±2% to meet the requirements specified in the battery manual. Please do not stop the floating charge when the battery used for floating charge is not in operation. ——Valve-regulated battery packs newly installed or overhauled should be subjected to a full-check discharge test. Afterwards, a check-discharge test shall be conducted every 2 to 3 years. For valve-regulated battery packs that have been in operation for 6 years, check once a year. Sexual discharge experiment. If the battery pack capacity does not reach more than 80% of the rated capacity after 3 checks and discharges, it can be considered that the life of this group of valve-controlled batteries has ended and should be replaced. --After the battery is discharged, the charging rule of constant current and voltage limiting charging→constant voltage charging→floating charging during recharging must be strictly observed. If conditions permit, it is better to use a high-frequency switching power supply type charging device to intelligently manage the battery .
